Denaby Youth Attracted By Evangelistic Campaign

The Order of Christian Witness Mission Campaign in Denaby is proving to be very successful, according to Mrs Y.M. Griffith, of Conisbrough – one of the campaigners.

She told the “South Yorkshire Times” last night: “It has gone very well and we are pleased with the results. Church members in Denaby have been tremendously impressed and they have joined in more than in any other campaign in my experience.”

One of the main objects of the campaign is to get young non-church members interested, and that has been one of the major successes.

These young people have been joining the campaigners. In Epworth Hall, stayed on for prayers and then spent the rest of the evening either dancing or talking.

“We now feel that they are taking an interest in the campaign too,” said Mrs Griffith.

The children’s parties on Tuesday were also a great success. Held at the Church Hall, Salvation Army Hall and Epworth Hall they were attended by over 200 children.

Open Air Meetings.

Open air meetings have been held outside the Denaby Cinema and Denaby Main Hotel and on Wednesday about 50 people gathered to hear the speakers.

Last night there was a meeting at Tom Hill Youth Club, which was open to all young people, there was also another meeting in the Salvation Army Hall. Among the panel of speakers was Miss Lillian Todd, of Maltby Hall Girl’s Secondary School and Doctor Marjorie Lonsdale, headmistress of a Southport public school. Mrs Griffiths said, “The campaign is something that Denaby has never seen before. We have never, in any campaign, had so many people on the premises to help us.”

The Order of Christian Witness Mission Campaign.is an interdenominational group and they believe that evangelism is the job of every ordinary church member. By friendliness, personal example and readiness to answer questions they try to show how the Christian faith is relevant to the present day
