Denaby’s Debt Reduced
Council Team’s Good Season
There was a large attendance at the annual meeting of the Denaby and Cadeby Cricket, Tennis and Bowls Club on Tuesday. Mr. E. Robinson presided. Mr. Robinson congratulated the bowls land tennis sections upon winning trophies. He paid a tribute to the voluntary w done by members. They had reduced the bank overdraft by £68.
The financial statement submitted by Mr. F. Waring. the secretary, showed that the total income was £433 16s. 10d. Gate receipts were £32 subscriptions £61, sports allocation fund grant £282, knock-out competition £32
Expenditure included a bank overdraft of £138, travelling expenses £45, wages £72, knock out competition £15. In his report Mr. Waring expressed pleasure at the attendance of Mr. A. Robinson, a life member, and wished him a speedy recovery from his recent illness.
They had had a ”cricket summer” and the Yorkshire Council team only just failed to reach the semi-finals. At the end of the season they occupied the fifth position with a percentage of 69.82. The team had scored 3,149 runs for 122 wickets, while their opponents had scored 2,768 runs for 203 wickets.
The Doncaster League team finished fourth from the bottom of the table having won only two of their 20 games.
The club averages were won as follows: First team batting: J. Wright, 45.58; Bowling: R. Proberts, average 10; Second team batting: A. V. Hough, 26.1: Bowling: E. Wathey, average 17.65.
The club had place on record the bowling feat of E. P. Robinson, the county colt, who took 80 wickets in the Yorkshire Council for an average of 12.34, this being a club record. They hoped to have the services of Sam Kennedy, a former member of the team, in the coming season. and H. Crummack, a promising young batsman from the Doncaster district. He regretted the club would not have the services of A. Springthorpe, but wished him the best of luck with his new club.
The tennis section won the Mexborough Tennis League (Division I and II) for the second year in succession without a single defeat. During the coming season they contemplated joining the Sheffield League.
Mr. E. Robinson pointed out that several alterations were being made to the ground. The cricket pavilion was under reconstruction. The new rooms would not be ready for the opening matches and it was possible the players would have to use the wooden bungalow in the field. The bowls members would have to be content to play on the old green for another season as the new green behind the football season ground would not be ready to play on this season. There was every prospect of a hard tennis court being laid.
Officials for the ensuing season were elected as follows: President: Capt. L. C. Hodges: Treasurer: Mr. E. Robinson; Secretary: Mr. F. Waring; General cricket committee: Messrs. H. Shoosmith senr. E. Hadfield. A. Wright, A. Allport senr., H. Milnes, P. Harrison, E. Boot. T. Smith. A. Hough, E. Walker, A. M. Carlin. J. Robinson. J. Jeffcote. E. Dabs, T. Morgan, L. Moseley and I.
