Denaby’s New Church School
The newly opened and dedicated church school at Denaby is described as a splendid testament to the generosity and enterprise of the Denaby Main Colliery Company.
The newspaper praises the company in glowing terms, stating that:
Few public bodies could equal the company’s spirit of enterprise.Few commercial firms were as generous in providing facilities for the welfare of their employees. The school they had built was regarded as second to none in England in terms of its accommodation. If the quality of the education matched the excellence of the building, it would become “a remarkable institution.”
The article also points out that, despite widespread complaints from coal owners about financial losses, the Denaby Main Colliery Company had invested about £4,500 in constructing the church school.
