Denaby Oldest is 95 on Saturday
Tomorrow (Saturday), Mrs E Bates, of 11, Shepherds Close Bungalows, Denaby Main, will celebrate the 95th birthday and we extend to her good wishes on behalf of the village to which she came to live in 1905.
Mrs Bates, probably the oldest resident in the village, was born in Wolverhampton, and his widow to Mr Enoch Bates, who was for many years a plate layer at Denaby Main Colliery, and who died 26 years ago.
She has had 10 children, four sons and six daughters, but only one son and two daughters are living. Her son, Mr H Bates, who lives in Conisbrough, is a well-known local preacher.
One daughter lives away and Mrs Turner, the other, lives in Marr Street, Denaby Main, and is well known for her work for the W.V.S., for Denaby over 60s club, at the Clinic and as a member of Conisbrough Glee party, who give concerts at hospitals and the old people’s clubs.
Mrs Bates has 10 grandchildren, 32 great-grandchildren, and 15 great great grandchildren.
She doesn’t get out much, especially in the cold weather, but she did manage to get to the birthday party in January of Denaby Over 60s Club, of which she has been a member for many years.
