Denaby’s Unemployed.
An Insanitary Habitation.
Twelve unemployed Denaby men at present in tents at Sparrow Barracks, Mexborough, were summoned at the Doncaster West Riding Court on Saturday for failing to abate a nuisance.
Mr. J. W. Hattersley, clerk to the Mexborough Urban Council, stated that notice had been served upon the defendants to leave the tents on account of the insanitary condition of the places.
They had been given an extension of time, which had now expired, and as no effort was made by the parties to leave the encampment, the Council pressed for an order, as the existing state of things was dangerous to public health.
Dr. Huey, medical officer, proved the insanitary condition of the camp, and the defendants consented to leave within 14 days, the alternative being a fine of 40s.
