Deputy Surveyor.

Mr. Charles Urch, 74, Elm Green Lane, was on Wednesday appointed deputy surveyor to Mr. A. W. R. Taylor, who has succeeded Mr. Harry Thirlwall as surveyor, engineer and housing architect to the Council.

Mr. Urch, a native of Conisbrough, was educated at Morley Place School, from which he gained a County Minor scholarship, and Mexborough Secondary School, where he obtained School Certificate.

Mr. Urch joined the surveyor’s staff at the Council offices in 1921 shortly after he left school. During the was he was a member of the A.R.P. Report Centre staff at the Castle Farm Depot, and he has been interested in campanology since he was 16.

He is a member of the Parish Church bell-ringers’ team and a member of the Yorkshire Association of Change Ringers. Mr. Urch is also interested in astrology. He is 42, married and has one child.
