Conisbrough Couple Celebrate their Diamond Wedding

It falls to the lot of but few married people to celebrate their diamond wedding, but this privilege has been bestowed upon Mr and Mrs John Kentof Elm tree cottages, Conisbrough, who have now being married over 60 years.
The event was celebrated on Monday, when the happy couple were the recipients of hosts congratulations. The old gentleman, who is not at present best blessed with the best of health, has reached the ripe old age of 87, while his helpmeet is wonderfully nimble considering the weight of 81 years.
Both Mr and Mrs Kent attribute their good fortune in possessing good health and enjoying long life to the fact that they have lived on the land. Their whole life has been devoted to farming.Mr Kent was born at Boston Lincs. Left an orphan at the early age of two years, he was brought up by his grandfather, who lived to the ripe old age of 95 and died in the present Mr Kent was 20 years of age.
Mr Kent profited largely by the valuable experience on his grandfathers farm. He married in 1853, at Kirkby on Bain (Lincs) Elizabeth Bailey of Tattershall, and their family consisted of four children, three sons and one daughter, and there were 13 grandchildren and three great-grandchildren. Their third son, who lives at Elm green Lane, is the only surviving child
For very many years, Mr Kent was occupied in farming at low Burnham, near Epworth, and having earned a competency he retired into private life at the age of 62. He resided in one more about for years. He came to Conisbrough about 16 years ago, and is now a well-known personage, enjoying the esteem and respect of many acquaintances.
We extend our good wishes to them and know that they may be spared many more years to enjoy their health, happiness and prosperity.
