April.
1—Mr. L. C. Hodges. of Barnborough Hall managing director of the Doncaster College Association, took over clutter of general manager of the Yorkshire Amalgamated Collieries in succession to Mr. H. C. Harrison.
6—Mr. Redvers Melbourne, of Mexboro’, made a gallant but unsuccessful attempt to rescue a Mexborough woman from drowning in the canal anal, being awarded the medal of the Royal Humane Society.
14—Opening of new dirt track at Wombwell, under auspices of the Darfield Motor Club.
16—Opening by Mr. Tom Williams, M.P., of extension to the Mexborough Child Welfare Centre.
Presentation on behalf of church organisations to Mrs. F. A. Ellis on her retirement from the position of parochial messenger at Denaby Main.
17—First performance of the Conisborough Church Operatic Society.
18—” Bluebell Fayre” at St. George’s, Menboro’.
A Thurnscoe child, Thomas Victor Tucker, aged 8, fatally gassed while playing in his home.
21—Council Sunday at Wath.
War memorial shrine in Bolton Pariah Church unveiled and dedicated.
24—Bazaar in aid of the Wath Wesleyan Church.
27—Mr. William Johnson, undermanager at the Wombwell Main Colliery, received from the officials, staff and workmen a presentation to mark his completion of years’ service.
28—Civic and Industrial Sunday celebrated in Wombwell Parish Church.
29—Head-on collision of two motor cycles at Scawby, resulted in the death of Mr. R. S. Watson, school-teacher, of Thurnscoe, and Mr. Samuel H. Ellis, of Cudworth, a ‘bus driver employed by the Yorkshire Traction Co.
30 —Trackless Bill promoted by the Mexboro’ and Swinton Tramway Company approved in so far as it applied to existing routes.
May.
4— “Labour Day” celebrated by many local Labour parties.
5—May festivals at Wath, Denaby Main, Rawmarsh, Cudworth, etc.
6-7— Thurnscoe A.D.S. produced “The Creaking Chair.”
Denaby Church Players produced “Our Bessie.”
7—Tom Saunders (28), of West Mottos, killed by a fall of coal in Cortonwood Colliery.
9—Harry Dickinson (54), Thurnscoe, killed fall of dirt in the Hickleton Hain Colliery.
Alfred Calvert (76), a Wath Council workman, died of injuries received on April 24th while tending a mortar mill in the Council yard.
10—Harry Taylor (40). of Wombwell, killed by fall of roof in the Wombwell Main Colliery: at the inquest on May 11th the Coroner complimented a number of miners for their courage in rescue work.
12—May Day pageant at St. Michael’s R.C. Church, Low Valley.

16—Yorkshire Traction Company took over the ‘bus service of the Mexborough and Swinton Tramway Company front Mexborough to Goldthorpe.
18-20—Goldthorpe Musical Festival, held in Church Hall and Hickleton Hall grounds.
24—Mr. David Henry Roberta, architect to the Wombwell 1../.D.C., appointed architect to the Whitchurch U.D.C.
27—A Thurnscoe child , Harry Whitehouse, knocked down and killed by a ‘bus in Station Road, Thurnscoe.
29—Fifty members of the Wombwell Parish Church attended Holy Communion in Sheffield Cathedral.
30—The General Election. Polling Day.
June.
1—Salvation Army Band Festival at Goldthorpe. Official opening of new Conisbrough Middle School by Sir Percy Jackson.
3–Baptistry window in the Swinton Parish Church dedicated by the Bishop of Sheffield.
4—The Wath Urban Council decided to undertake sewerage schemes under the unemployment grants scheme.
7—Wath Deanery Mothers’ Union trip to London.
Viscount Halifax. of Hickleton Hall, celebrated his 90th birthday.
8—Wombwell Middle School opened by Aid T. H. Foulstone of Darfield.
I9—Body of an unknown men found poisoned in a field at Conisboro’.
15—Thurnscoe Parish Church garden fete.
19—Marriage of Mr. F. W. Ward, Swinton, to Miss C. N. Baylis, of Morthen at Wickersley Parish Church.
21-24— Mexborough Feast Shopping Display.
27— Mexborough Old Folk Treat at Hooton Pagnell Hall, over 400 all people being entertained.
