Dice Games at New Conisborough

Three colliery workers from Denaby and New Conisborough were summoned for having game with dice at Conisborough on 22 April.

Their names are William Fern, miner, John McCarthy, filler, Denaby; and Harry Bird, miner, New Conisborough.

None of the defendants appeared.

PC Ransom stated that at 5:15 PM on Saturday the 22nd April, he was on duty in School Lane, New Conisborough, when he saw the three defendants gaming with dice. Witness was quite close, and could see all that took place.

The defendant’s ran away, but he saw them afterwards, and told them they would be reported.

Fern, who had been previously convicted of a similar offence, was fined 7/6 and costs, while the other defendants, were nothing against them, had 5 shillings and costs each to pay.
