Disorderly and Refusing to Quit at Denaby

Richard Brookes, miner, of Denaby, was summoned for having been disorderly and having refused to quit the Reresby Arms, Denaby, kept by John Slater.

Defendant pleaded guilty and said he was very sorry.

The landlord said the defendant became very disorderly while in his house, and he refused to go out when requested.

The magistrates imposed a fine of 20s. including costs or 14 days in default.

Ann Flannery, widow, of Denaby was summoned for having been drunk and refusing to quit the Reresby Arms, Denaby, on the 21st May.

John Slater, the landlord, said the defendant came into his house drunk. She refused to leave when ordered out.

Defendant: I only had a glass of port wine.

Police constable Midgeley, in answer to the Bench, deposed that defendant had been before the court on a previous occasion. She was a widow, but it was alleged she cohabited with the man who lived in the same house.

The Chairman cautioned the defendant against a repetition of the offence, pointing out that that was not her first appearance before the court. The magistrates would let her off easily this time and fine her 5s. and costs.
