Distinguished Visitors at the Vicarage

Denaby Main had two distinguished visitors during the weekend who were the guests of the Reverend Mr and Mrs Clark at the vicarage.

There was a Hon. H.M. Williams, a Member of the Legislative Assembly of Northern Rhodesia, Central Africa and Mrs Williams. Mrs Williams came a short time ago to England, and Mr Williams flew here in time to be in London to witness the Silver wedding festivities of the King and Queen.

On Sunday afternoon Mr Williams addressed the scholars of the Parish Church Sunday school and gave an interesting account of his flight to England, telling them of the thrills they had when flying over certain parts and witnessing the herding of hippopotami in thousands. Later as they passed over the jungle belt they saw various wild animals.

Mr Williams assisted the Vicar when he was serving in Africa as a priest and they shared a house about 25 years ago. Mr Williams acting as churchwarden for Mr Clarke. He still holds that position at his church out there.

He read the second lesson at the Parish Church on Sunday evening and a Monday afternoon accompanied by Mrs Williams and Mrs Clark he visited Denaby Colliery and they went to the coalface.

Both Mr and Mrs Williams have enjoyed renewing their friendship with Mr and Mrs Clark and also their visit to Denaby Main.
