Doing Damage to a Wheat field

Robert Cooper, sicklesmith, Conisborough, was charged with doing damage to a wheat field, on 31st ult., the property belonging to Mr Walker.

Mr Hall appeared for the prosecution.

George Baker, farmer, Conisborough said on the 21st ult. about 11 o’clock, he saw the defendant in a wheat field, belonged to Mr Walker. There was no footpath there at all. In the evening he found two snares in the direction in which the defendant was going.

In defence, Cooper said he was going across to Edlington Wood, and knew nothing about the snares.

A fine of 10s was imposed, and he was ordered to pay 1s damages and the costs 17s.
