Domestic tradegy

Mrs. Mary Ann Goodwin, aged 56, wife of Wm. Goodwin, of 23 Tickhill Street, Denaby Main, died late on Saturday night or early on Sunday morning in distressing circumstances.

On Saturday evening she appeared to be in her usual health, when her husband retired to bed, leaving her downstairs to complete some of her household duties. He fell asleep, and did not wake until fairly late on Sunday morning. On going downstairs he found the gas was still burning, and going down the cellar he found the body of his wife lying on the cellar steps. She was lying on her back with her feet towards the kitchen and head towards the pantry.

She was quite dead, and doctor. J. McArthur who arrived at noon expressed the opinion that she had been dead some five or six hours.

He made a post-mortem examination, and discovered that the cause of death was heart disease and inquest was held by Mr. Frank Allen, at the Denaby Main Institute on Tuesday afternoon, and a verdict of “death from natural causes” was returned.
