Domestic Troubles at Conisbro’.
On Saturday, at the Doncaster West Riding Police Court, Enoch Beardsley, collier, Conisbro’, was summoned by his wife, Eliza, for desertion and persistent cruelty, complainant applying for a separation order.
Evidence was given to the effect that defendant left his wife three weeks ago, and during that time had sent her only 4s.
The cruelty was alleged to have extended over a period of three years, defendant having, on different occasions, beaten his wife in addition to breaking the furniture.
Defendant stated that his wife was in the habit of pawning his clothes, and was very intemperate in her habits.
The Bench made an order for defendant to contribute 10s. per week towards his wife’s maintenance.
