Former Denaby Cricketer Married

Mr Basil Robinson, former Denaby cricketer and son of Mrs C. E. Robinson and the late Mr E. Robinson, of “Greenbank” Low Road, Conisborough, was married yesterday (Thursday) at St John’s Church, Balby, to Miss Joan Smithurst, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. E. Smithurst, of the Plough Hotel, Balby, Doncaster. Given away by her father, the bride wore ballerina length gown white lace and carried pink carnations.

Her attendants, Miss Mary Smith and Mr. R. Smith, were in pale blue net and lace and carried freesia. Best man was Mr. R. Smith and groomsman Mr Ellis Robinson. The bride’s mother wore a green ensemble with black accessories and the bridegroom’s mother had chosen gunmetal Grey with light grey accessories a reception was held at the Plough Hotel and the honeymoon is being spent touring Devon and Cornwall.

Note: Basil later became landlord at the Talisman in Conisbrough and the Milton Arms at Elsecar.
