Double Assault at Denaby

James Lang, of Denaby, was fined 20 shillings including costs for having assaulted Elizabeth Uttley on the 11th instant.

Complainant said she was going with her husband to Mexborough market, and they called at the Reresby Arms at Denaby. Defendant struck in the breast and used obscene language.

Defendant was also summoned for having assaulted Thomas Benton.

Benton said he was outside the Reresby Arms and defendant struck him.

In defence Lang said he was leaving the Reresby Arms, someone struck him in the back and knocked him down. He got up and struck at the first man he came to. (Laughter).

The magistrates fined 20 shillings including costs.
