Double Honour

This has been a busy week for 20 year old Alan T. Johnston, of Conisbrough Police Station. He has gained the double honour of becoming a double colours winner in his first year at Sheffield University and he has just learned that he has passed his first-year examinations in medicine.

Alan, captain of the University Boxing Club, successfully represented the Northern Universities as a heavy weight in a match against Wales in March. And on Saturday he represented the English Universities in a triangular match at Cardiff with the Welsh A.A.A. and the Welsh Universities.

Alan ran third- in the 120 yards hurdles. On Wednesday he went to Bangor expecting a normal University fixture to include           hurdles event.

There were no hurdles_ so he entered and came second in the mile walk.

Other seconds were in the shot put and high jump.

Alan,   who is 6 ft 5 ins tall is a former Yorkshire. Junior High Jump  champion and has represented the Northern Counties Universities at hurdles.
