Drunk at Mexborough and Conisborough
Patrick Moran, miner, Conisborough, was charged with being drunk and disorderly at Conisborough, on the 15th inst.
Police-sergeant Ambler deposed that about 9.40 p.m. on the day in question he was on duty on the Denaby-road, Conisborough, and saw the defendant drunk and using bad language. He ordered him away and he went, but again was seen disorderly, about ten minutes after, and he was then summoned.
Police constable Windsor gave corroborative evidence.
Defendant did not appear
The Chairman said the defendant appeared to have been summoned six or seven times Iast year. and once previously during the present month.
Now he would be sent to prison for seven days with hard labour, and to pay the costs, or in default be imprisoned for a further seven days.
Lorenzo Dodsley, miner, of Mexborough; was charged with having been drunk and disorderly on the 15th inst. at Melborough.
Inspector Barrett deposed to seeing the defendant and another man drunk in Pinfold lane and using obscene language to each other. One of the men kicked a door, but he was not sure which one did it.
Police constable Ramsden said he had heard the evidence of the inspector and it was quite correct.
The Chairman: It is no use you are saying it is quite correct unless you can say something yourself.
The witness then detailed the circumstances.
The defendant was fined 20s including costs.
Charles Haywood, labourer, of Conisborough was charged with having been drunk and disorderly at Conisborough, on the 17th inst. He pleaded not guilty.
Police – Constable Truman said, at 10:10 on the Sunday night in question, he was near the Station on the Denaby road, Conishorough, when he saw defendant the worse for drink and using bad language.
Defendant : I said nothing of the sort, me and my mate were going home.
Police – Constable Truman: You said you would go when you liked.
Police – Constable Ambler corroborated, and said the defendant was very drunk.
The defendant denied having said anything to either of the policeman. He had no witness to call.
Fined 20s including costs
William Jones, miner, Conisborough, pleaded guilty to having been drunk and disorderly at Conisborough and had to pay 15s including costs .
