A Drunken Driver at Denaby

Serious Consequences

Stephen Rawlinson, a Doncaster butcher was charged with being drunk was in charge of a horse and cart at Denaby.

PC Truman stated That whilst on duty in the main thoroughfare he saw the defendant driving furiously along – at the rate of 12 or 14 miles an hour – and he called out “Stop!”

The man took no notice and proceeded with. Shortly afterwards there was a collision and he found the vehicle had run against one belonging to Mr Ross, of Denaby Main, which was being driven by John Thomas Rhodes, who was thus thrown out as well as Rollinson.

The persons did not appear much, but the vehicles were damaged. Rollinson was drunk and was accordingly summoned.

The defendant said it was a dark night and the lamps were not lit.

The evidence having been confirmed, the Chairman said it was a very serious offence and the maximum penalty would be imposed.

Defendant was fined £2 and £1 6s costs
