Drunkeness – Seven Cases from Conisborough

Drunks.

Thomas Henson, filler, was charged with being drunk and disorderly at Conisborough, on the 29th August, prisoner pleaded guilty, – Sgt Brown proved the case, and defendant was fired 5s, and 10s costs

James Dalton, miner, Annie Dalton, married woman, Patrick McHale, miner, and Wright Lee, all of new Conisborough, were charged with being drunk and disorderly at that place on August 31st.

Police constable Jarvis said he was on duty about 8:15 pm, on the date in question, when he saw the four defendants rolling about the road and causing a disturbance; they were cursing and swearing at the top of their voices, he requested them to go home, but they refused to do so.

Police constable Evans then came up, and they persuaded them to go home, police constable Evans said he was in company with the other officer and bore out his statement.

Defendants were fined 10s and costs. Or 10 days in default.

Arthur Wharton was charged with a similar offence at Conisborough, on 1 September.

Police constable Jarvis said that at about 4:15 in the afternoon he was on duty in Gomersall Street, and he there saw the defendant very drunk, he was using very filthy language, and fell down repeatedly.

Fined 10s, and 11s costs.

Samuel Watkinson, miner, was charged with being drunk and disorderly at Conisborough on 1 September. Fred Lowe, the landlord’s son of the Station Inn Conisborough, said the defendant came to the front entrance on the date in question, and demanded drink, this was refused, and he was ordered away, he went to another entrance and tried to get in, on being stopped the man drew a revolver and threatened to shoot witness.

Walter Marshall, creator at the Station Inn, corroborated the last witnesses date men.

Defendant was fined 40s. Including costs.
