“Dry” after the Play at Conisborough

The landlord of the Station Inn, Conisborough, applied for permission to sell drink “an extra hour” on Saturday nights for the benefit of the people who came away from the temporary theatre there.

The Chairman said he supposed that application would apply to all the public houses in the village, and Superintendent Blake replied in the affirmative.

The Chairman asked if the theatrical performances were going on regularly and the superintendent said that was so.

The public and said his application was only for Saturday nights.

The Chairman: Yes, but we should have to give it to every one, you see.

The application was refused.

The magistrates sanctioned the performance of stage plays at the travelling theatre in question—the Paragon Theatre at Conisborough, Mexborough and Bolton.
