Ducks and Hens

A 16-year-old Conisbrough labourer told the magistrates at Doncaster West Riding Juvenile Court on Wednesday that a 13 year old boy offered him three shillings for every duck he caught, and the two of them went off and stole two ducks from an allotment.

The labourer and the 13 year old boy, also from Conisbrough, pleaded guilty to stealing the two ducks, value 30 shillings, and the 16-year-old pleaded guilty to stealing two hens, value 25 shillings.

The 13-year-old boy was given a conditional discharge, and the other boy, stated to be already on two year’s probation for stealing pigeons, was fined 20 shillings, and a new order for two year’s probation was made out.
