Mexborough & Swinton Times – Saturday 07 October 1922
Edlington (Men) 0. Conisboro’ Victoria (Men) 4.
Paying on a good surface on the Yorkshire Main cricket field, the visitors were early into their stride. and less than ten minutes elapsed before R. Soar scored the opening goal. Shortly afterwards E. N. B. Meacock got through to score number two. Before half time, a couple more were added by R. Soar and A. G. Moore, making the score in four goals to nil.
During the second half, many promising movements were spoiled by Victoria’s forwards being offside, and though a number of shot were put in, they could net find the goal, many opportunities were missed. The visitors had some difficulty in raising a team for this match, but V. Dodsworth and A. Holmes, who do not commence matches with Mexborough until Saturday, kindly filled the vacant places and played good games.
Victoria has now played three men’s matches and scored seventeen goals without once having the defence penetrated. Next Saturday, Victoria play Normanby Park at Scunthorpe, in a mixed match. this being one of the best fixtures of the season, for after a pleasant motor journey and a game on a perfect pitch, there is a tea and dance at the Sheffield Arms, at Burton Strather on the Humber.
