A Conisbrough View on Safety Quizzes.

“The real thing in schools – education – is sadly neglected nowadays because there are so many extra activities in schools” said Mr J Proctor at Wednesday’s meeting of Conisbrough Road Safety Committee.

He was reporting to the committee that Conisbrough Head Teachers Association and all the teachers of Conisbrough had declined to cooperate in road safety quizzes.

Members of the committee stated that they were surprised as in the past the teachers are always given their cooperation.

Mr Proctor said the quizzes tended to ’lionise’ successful children and at a young age they could be, very conceited.

Mr Proctor added “Our decision does not suggest that we are not concerned over the safety of the children on the roads, but first things first. Apart from the quizzes, the children get instruction from PC A Whaley, the Doncaster Road Safety officer, and I instruct them once a month.”

Ald Roberts hope Mr Proctor will report to his Association the surprise and disappointment of the Committee. A decision on running quizzes was deferred.
