Election of an Assistant Overseer for Conisbro’.
On Thursday night, a numerously attended meeting was held at the Church Sunday School, Conisbro’, for the purpose of electing an assistant overseer for the parish in the room of Mr. Oxley, who is leaving Conisbro’. There were three candidates for the vacant post—Mr. Allen (proposed by Mr. Ledger, and seconded by Mr. R. Wilson), Mr. Harrison (proposed by Mr. Hill, and seconded by Mr. Brown), and Mr. John Hawksworth (proposed by Mr. G. Appleyard, and seconded by Mr. C. Kilner).
The election was proceeded with by ballot. The result was as follows:—Hawksworth, 42; Allen, 27; Harrison, 26.
Mr. Searle proposed, Mr. Oxley seconded, and it was carried unanimously, that the salary of the newly-elected assistant-overseer be £40 per annum
