Election Of Assistant Overseer For Conisbro’

A meeting of the ratepayers of Conisbro’ was held last evening, in the Church Schoolroom at that place, for the purpose of electing an assistant overseer, in the place of Mr. Oxley, resigned.

It will be remembered that a similar meeting was held last week, but the Doncaster Guardians, from some cause or other, refused to confirm the decision of that meeting.

Four candidates were nominated, viz.: Mr. J. Hawksworth, Mr. W. Allen, Mr. Geo. Harrison, and Mr. G. Haigh.

The votes were taken by ballot, and were as follow: Hawksworth, 64; Allen, 58; Harrison, 24; Haigh, 4. The two lowest names were dropped, and then the contest was between Hawksworth and Allen, the former being elected by 78 votes to 69.
