Mexborough & Swinton Times – Friday 27 July 1934
Though Ellis Robinson, the young Denaby all-rounder, has been under the notice of the county authorities for a season or so, it was not until a few weeks ago that he got his first chance with the Yorkshire second team, and his inclusion in the county first team for the match with Worcestershire this week constitutes exceptionally rapid promotion to first-class cricket.
A good fast medium bowler, who is still improving, a useful left-handed bat of the forcing type, and a brilliant fielder, Robinson is well equipped for a successful career in the first-class game and there is no reason why he should not make good.
Robinson, who is 22 years of age, has been playing for Denaby for six or seven years. He played previously with Conisboro’ in the Doncaster League, and it was while taking part in a league final on the Tickhill Square ground between Conisboro’ and Barnburgh that his batting attracted the attention of the Denaby committee. It was after he joined Denaby that he came to the fore as a bowler.
