The many patrons of the Empire Picture Palace have had an excellent and diversified array of pictures put before them this week. The morning matinee on Tuesday drew a record attendance. Mr. S. J. Dixon is keeping up the reputation of the above hall as a first-class “Home of Pictures,” and this week the programme is up to the usual high standard.
For the first part of the week the star film was “Les Miserables,” the world’s greatest picture, which was secured at enormous expense, and proved very interesting. A children’s matinee is held on Saturday afternoon, when a special children’s programme is projected.
Two of the greatest productions of the cinema world will be on view at this popular house for next week, a special and exclusive film being announced for each half of the week. For Monday, Tuesday, and Wednesday the top-liner is the great dramatic picture, “The Calling of Louis Mona.” This portrays a deeply moving story, which grips at every point, and should on no account be missed.
By special request, a beautiful picture representation of the famous Irish drama “Arrah-na-Pogue” will also be shown; while the remaining dramas and comic pictures have been carefully chosen.
For the last three nights of the week the management have secured, at enormous expense, the rights for exhibiting in this district the dramatisation of the famous novel, “East Lynne.” This is the genuine Barker production, and for brilliant treatment and faithfulness to story, it is indeed a masterpiece.
We anticipate the accommodation of the Empire will be taxed to its utmost capacity to witness this famous production.
