Evacuees’ Party
About 170 children evacuated to the Conisbrough and Denaby Main area from many parts of the country, attended a Christmas party at the Wesley Church schoolroom on Monday afternoon which had been arranged by the local Billetting Officer, Mr. Geo. R. Hill, and the local W.V.S.
A play, “The Butterfly Queen,” was given by scholars of the Wesley Church Sunday School, following which the children played games under the supervision of the Rev. Fred Harrington and the Wesleyan minister, the Rev. W. Thynne.
Tea was served by members of the local W.V.S. and afterwards each child was presented with sweets and a toy by Father Christmas (Mr. Lank Hingley, of Denaby Main).
The Wesleyan trustees were thanked by the chairman of the Billetting Committee, Coun. David Sheldon, for the loan of the schoolroom.
