Ex-Denaby Ward Councillor to Reconsider His Decision

After representing Denaby Ward on Conisborough Urban Council for the past five years as a Labour councillor, Mr Peter Dyson, of 6, Blyth Street, Denaby, has resigned – but is now considering seeking re-election.

Mr Dyson, an underground worker at Cadeby colliery, handed in a letter of resignation to Mr. R. F. Edwardson, clerk to Conisborough Council, two weeks ago.

Mr Dyson told a South Yorkshire Times reporter yesterday that because he had obtained work elsewhere, he resigned from the Urban Council, but as the work was not to his satisfaction he had returned to Denaby. He said he would make up his mind this week end whether or not he would offer himself as a candidate to go before Conisborough and Denaby local Labour Party for selection as a Labour candidate.

It is understood that a meeting of the Labour Party on Sunday is to consider the nomination of a candidate for the vacancy.

Nominations for the vacancy close next Thursday.
