Familiar Cries.
Following publication in a recent issue of some “cries of the village” of many years ago, which several readers were interested to read, our Denaby correspondent is reminded of two of the familiar cries of yesteryear.
The hokey Pokey man’s cry was “hokey pokey a penny a jump” and the man who used to parade the village with flycatchers around his tall hat calling “flycatchers.”
In those days the village had quite a lot of flies because of the many open middens, but fortunately the fly pest is not now so prevalent.
