‘Fancy’ Smith at Denaby
The crowds should be out at Denaby this weekend for what should be truly a “Celebrity Sunday”.
Television personality Brian Blessed will lead Fancy Smith’s XI against a Musicians’ Union team in a grand charity football match that will bring singers Vera Lynn and Carol Deene, Leeds United Manager Don Revie, and former Rotherham United manager Danny Williams to Tickhill Square, Denaby, the home of Midland League team Denaby United.
They are just a few of the famous names who will attend Sunday’s game, in aid of the Spastics Association and Musicians’ Union charities.
The game will be heralded by a march through Denaby streets of a Territorial Army band, expected to move off from Balby Street at about 2 p.m. and march by way of Tickhill Street to the football ground. Kick-off is at 3 p.m.
Tickets, no doubt in great demand, should be available from Musicians’ Union, or Denaby United officials, or at tomorrow’s Midland League game with Spalding at Tickhill Square.
Spectators on Sunday will also have a chance to win a free holiday for two.
