Fast’ Ed’s feat

Ed. Fisher will be remembered in the Conisbrough area for his billiards and snooker playing and he is now continuing to show his skills in the game in Canada where he has been for the past year.

Mr. and Mrs. S. Wootton of Balby Street, Denaby, have received a newspaper cutting this week from their son-in-law and eldest daughter, Mr. and Mrs. Fisher, who are living in Calgary, Canada, telling of Mr. Fisher’s success in a billiards game.

Mr. Fisher played for several Conisbrough area clubs, including the Northcliffe and the Ivanhoe, when he and his wife and four daughters lived at Mickle-bring Grove, Conisbrough. He was employed by a local traction company, and is now a bus driver with a Canadian company.

The article in a Canadian Legion newspaper read, “Recent arrival from Yorkshire, Ed Fisher, won the billiards crown defeating Ken Brunton in the final, while in the process of giving a demonstration of his uncanny potting skill, and incidentally reviving the age old controversy as to the ethics of potting the opponent’s white.

“Fast’ Eddie supports this style of play by pointing to the fact that serious competition play is quite different from the ordinary `friendly’ competition with ‘nothing on it’ and the runner-up and many knowledgeable observers contribute fully to this view.”
