Fatal Accident at the Denaby Main Colliery.

About half-past nine o’clock (yesterday) morning, a fatal accident occurred at the above colliery. Whilst a man named Charles Johnson was engaged in what is generally termed ” holing,” a large quantity of coal fell upon him and crushed him to death.

It appears that deceased had just had the “sprags” out, but as the coal did not fall, he replaced one of them, and then proceeded with “holing” again, when almost immediately he was buried beneath 10 or 15 tons of coal.

His companion had a very narrow escape also. Deceased leaves a wife and four or five children.
