Fatal accident at the Denaby Main Colliery

Yesterday a fatal accident occurred at the above colliery.

Whilst a miner named Samuel Webster was engaging getting coal, a portion of the roof, consisting of coal and other debris, fell upon him, crushing his head in a fearful manner.

He died almost immediately.

On Wednesday, about 12 o’clock, an accident, which terminated fatally, occurred at the above colliery.

A youth named Joseph Lucas, 18 years of age, was pushing away a “corf” of coal, and having call the boy to fetch it to the shaft with the pony, from some cause or other a portion of the roof fell upon him, crushing his head and face in a fearful manner.

He was speedily extricated, but death must have been almost instantaneous.
