The Fatal Railway Accident at Denaby

On Monday, the Doncaster Borough coroner (John Lister, Esq.), held an enquiry at the Guildhall, in that town, touching the death of Joseph Martin, a young man, who had died in the Doncaster Infirmary on Thursday last, in consequence of terrible injuries received by being run over at the railway at Denaby.

Deceased was employed as a porter, and on Thursday morning was engaging coupling five empty wagons from a goods train going from Mexborough to Frodingham.

By some means he slipped between the wagons, and was run over by all five empties, both legs been broken and frightfully.

He was at once conveyed in a brake van to Doncaster, and thence to the infirmary. Then he died a few minutes before midnight the same day.

A verdict was returned to the effect that deceased had been accidentally run over and killed.
