Fatality in Denaby Main Colliery

Yesterday, while John Barker, age 42, of Mexborough, and having a wife and four children, was tramming in the Denaby Main workings, about half a ton of roof, between the top two sections of soft coal, fell upon him, and buried him.

When he was extricated his face was found to be cut and bruised, and apparently two of his ribs and one of his legs were broken.

He was unconscious, and was taken home, but died on the way.
