Denaby Utd – Denaby 4 Conisbrough 1

2 February 1900

Mexborough Times, February 2.

Denaby United  4  Conisborough 1

This match was played on Saturday at Denaby. There was a good gate. The visitors won the toss, and with this advantage they pressed hard until Whitaker put a clean shot between the posts.

Denaby then made an effort, and after a considerable amount of hard work, Crowcroft
managed to equalise matters just before half-time.

Resuming, Denaby pressed hard, and putting the ball into a corner, Goodlad succeeded in transferring into the net. Goodwin made a run, and passed the leather over to Lyon , the inside Denaby right, who managed to make a neat score.

Some rushing play ensued on both sides for a considerable time, when Lyons again scored amid loud cheering just before the final whistle sounded.

A collection was made on the ground, and the handsome sum of £1 5s 5d was obtained, in aid of the Army reserve. This was afterwards made up to 30 shillings by Mr T Weston of the Reresby Arms, and the money was dispatched to Mr S Allerton, secretary to the South Yorkshire League, Kilnhurst, who will forward it to the Football Association in due course.
