Fire at Oil Works
On Monday evening, the residents near the fire station were roused by the ringing of the fire bell. Fire had broken out at the oil works (late Messrs. Nicholson Bros„ brewery) and the engine was at once despatched.
The danger was over, however when the engine arrived. Buckets were got to work with such effect tnat in a short time all danger was practically over.
The conflagration is supposed to have been caused by a steam pipe, which fired the floor boards over which it ran, and, when discovered, it was only a short distance from some large vats of fat.
