Fire in Denaby Church.
On Sunday smoke issued into the Denaby Parish Church, but as the nuisance abated, little notice was taken.
Yesterday, however, the verger thought, he smelt burning wood when he entered the church.
Investigations led the discovery of a fire under the Lady Chapel, where lot of old timber was smouldering. Men with picks had to dislodge a quantity of plaster before they could – get the source of the fire. After an hour’s work the fire was extinguished.
