Fire near Conisbro’
On Tuesday a fire broke out on the Butterbusk Farm, near Conisbro’, and was discovered by one of the workmen who, when going to bed, saw a haystack in flames about 12 yards from the barn. Shortly before, the man had been round the place, and found everything safe.
On going out the workmen saw two straw stacks break out into flames. Messengers were sent to Conisbro’ and Doncaster for assistance, the fire engines from both places at once repairing to the place. The supply of water was limited, and a strong wind blowing rendered the danger much greater. Considerable damage was done, but it is believed that it is covered by insurance.
The farm is occupied by Mr. F. Elliott, who removed from Denaby to it during the past year, and on this account it is not known whether the insurance policy which existed on the Denaby farm has been transferred to this. The damage is estimated at £300.
Mr. Elliott has been very unlucky in his farming. In previous years he has suffered serious losses in crops and stock, and last year he himself was seriously injured by an accident which laid him up for weeks. Misfortune literally dogs his steps.
