First Denaby United Venture “A Very Good Sendoff”

Expressing his gratitude on behalf of Denaby United Football Club to all who were concerned with the welfare of the club and the furtherance in its progress, Pres Mr Sam Peck said at Friday’s first joint annual dinner of the club and of the Supporters club: “I am confident that if such a grand job of work is continued Midland league football will be played in Denaby for many years to come.”

Mr Peck said he considered it a great honour to be asked to toast the club and its supporters at this restaurant venture. He sincerely hope that evening’s events would be before the many.

“No words of mine could express the gratitude of my colleagues and me for the magnificent effort that has been made by Mr Greathead and his committee, assisted in no small way by the ladies section. I would also like to take this opportunity of thanking the workers of the local collieries for their support – the foundation of our finance.

Team of Triers

“There are other sources for which we are always noted and one is the transfer, but this has nearly been closed by the efficient scouting system the league clubs have today. Our present position in the league has been determined by our commitments in cup ties and by the weather, but I am confident Bobby Southall and his team of triers will secure for us a most reasonable position in the league before the end of the season.”

Mr J. Greathead, president of the supporters club, responded. He said the supporters club had raised more money in this financial year than in any year since club’s existence, and of that figure of £560, lady supporters had given over £100 – a very good effort indeed. Nor was the season over: they hoped it would be possible to get still more to the parent club.

They would warmly welcome one or two more members to their supporters committee and in making this appeal he would say, “let’s give the Club £1000 next year if we can”.

“To be admired”

Mr J. Hall proposed “our visitors” in a short, witty and well-received health, and the response was either from United’s Jacksonville care. Mr Selkirk spoke of this one affection for Denaby United are not his admiration for the manner When the football going under what must surely be very timing circumstances.

There were clubs who would “pay their way to the top” in star plays in popularity; at Denaby the club and supporters had to work hard to achieve results. “Your team spirit is something to be admired.” Not “lo-res wholehearted in the collaborations between parent clubs and supporters. “The spirit can. If it is rusted, take you to the top of the league without all the stars and the publicity they bring with them. I have never yet been in a mining village which can’t are now a good team when the necessity arises. One day I may be sitting with you listening to someone else seen this. I sincerely hope so, anyway,” among the court several visitors was Councillor G. Cheshire, J. P., Chairman of Conisbrough Urban Council, who, wearing his chain of office, presided at the dinner and said he was sure he would afford a good deal of pleasure to the local authority to know the club has invited its chairman to do so. It was very important to maintain a happy relationship between club and local authorities; the latter could be helpful in many ways if approached on the many difficulties encountered from the time to time “I hope you will take note of those remarks

. Because I know you have inside the council chamber some loyal support of which perhaps, you are not aware.”

Very Good Sendoff

Councillor Cheshire said he felt dysfunction with a very good sendoff of the first right dinner; it had set a standard standard and he hoped it would be the forerunner of many more. He spoke appreciatively of the splendid work the supporters club was doing for the parent club and referred to supporting so far as my attendance was concerned it was to the district to support United for he understood that if only good support were forthcoming for the remaining home matches. The club would be able to balance its budget. “I think that it’s a very fine effort.”
