Five seconds Earth Tremor Rattles the Houses at Denaby.
“It was just like a bomb going off.”
A five seconds burst tremor at Denaby Main, at midnight on Wednesday, had people out in the street wondering what had happened, but officials at Denaby Colliery and nearby Cadeby Colliery had no reports to tie with the tremor, nor had Denaby police.
Mrs Sarah Hubert, of Tickhill Street, Denaby, said she was very shaken. “It was a terribly frightening experience,” she said.
She told the South Yorkshire Times that when it woke her she looked into the street and could see people wondering about trying to find out what had happened. Some thought it was a colliery explosion. “It was just like a bomb going off,” she added.
Cups and Saucers Mrs Margaret Allen said windows in her house shook and cups and saucers rattled in the cupboard.
Mrs T Sapey, wife of the steward at Denaby and Cadeby Miners Welfare Hall, also said it was very frightening.
Mr George Day, of Annerley Street, said everything in the house began to shake. He had to steady mirrors in the rooms before they fell from the walls.
Steward at the Minus Institute, Mr Jack Taylor, said he heard a rumble and thought someone in the house had fallen.
No Reports.
Officials at Denaby and Cadeby Collieries, said they had no reports of explosions nor tremors, and at NCB Divisional headquarters in Doncaster a spokesman said he, too, had no reports.
“I do not think it could be connected with the mining industry,” he said.
A spokesman for Denaby Police said there had been rumours of an incident but no official reports of damage nor injury had been made to them.
