Footballer And Girl.
A Denaby Application.
At the Doncaster West Riding Police Court, today, Leslie Hoften, professional footballer, of the Glossop F.C.. and formerly of tho Denaby United F.C , who did not appear, was ordered to pay 5s. a week, till was 16 years of age, towards the maintenance of his illegitimate child born to Gladys Cox, of 6. Thrybergh Terrace, Denaby Main, May 29th last.
Mr. Baddiley who appeared for complainant, said that the defendant had treated her very badly. He was a professional footballer, earning £4 a week all the year round, and was new a member of the Glossop team.
It was whilst he was member of the Denaby United club that he took advantage of complainant. He gave her a photograph of himself and when learned her condition promised to “put the ring on.
When asked by James Hancock, goalkeeper, captain the Denaby United team, if he would marry the girl, defendant said he didn’t think so, but that he would come to Denaby and settle it out court.
