Fortunate Conisborough.
Council’s Sound Financial Position.
At last night’s meeting of Conisborough Urban Council, Mr. G. Brocklesby (the accountant) said that Conisborough had a financial position of which they should be proud. Although they commenced last year £2,627 to the bad, they were now £5,025 on the right side.
He thought that no other urban district could show anything like that. The gross accessible value was £81,768, against £76,282 last year. The total rate for the year would be 16s., as against 17s. 4d. last year, and the general district rate was reduced 1s. 6 ½ d. in the £.
The estimates were approved.
Mr. A. Roberts, Labour member, was chairman, and Mr. T. J. Gregory (Labour) vicechairman.
Mr. Roberts said the coming year would hold many changes in regard to local government. He hoped they would discuss the important question of amalgamation. There were too many townships and parishes administered separately. Amalgamation might have disadvantages, but they would be outweighed by the advantages to the town and to other bodies.
