Fruits Of Harvest

Remarkable achievements by Conisborough Urban Parks staff during their wartime venture into farming revealed to the ‘South Yorkshire Times’this week by Mr, Cyril Rich Parks Supt.

To Mr. Rich and his staff praise is due, for their vigorous response to the call to ‘grow more food.’

They have just been striking a balance sheet to show the amount of produce grown by the Department during the four years from 1943, and the figures in many respects are astounding.

Top score goes to potatoes, of which 143 tons were obtained from the Council’s land at Denaby Thick and at Crookhill Road. In addition 25 tons of wheat were harvested, 1 ½ tons of oats (one year),             23 ½ tons of vegetables which on  were sold to pit canteens and the old British Restaurant.
