Gamble

Mrs. Harryy Gamble, 24 Castle Terrace, Low Road, Conisbrough, niece of Mr. Lawrence, milk purveyor, was notified by the War Office on October 31st that her husband, Corporal Harry Gamble, 2nd Batt. Yorks and Lancs Regiment, had been killed in France.

The couple were married on 4th August, and Gamble went to the front the next day, August 5th. He was a Reservist, and had served in Ireland and also in India for six years. Gamble arrived in France on September 6th. He was shot in the eye, the bullet coming out at the back of his head. It occurred in the Battle of the Aisne, October 2nd

Frank Mather brother ·in-law of Gamble is also serving in France.

Gamble had been appointed as postman at Maltby just previous to being called to the colours
