Game Trespass.

Samuel Fish, a collier, living at Denaby, was charged with having trespassed in pursuit of game on the 28th March, on land over which Mr. Cowlishaw has the right to shoot, situate at Denaby, and known as the Old Stone Quarry.

Mr. Taylor appeared for the prosecution, and Mr. F. Parker-Rhodes for the defence.

It appeared that the defendant, with another man who was not identified, were seen by a keeper named Hill in the Quarry on the day mentioned. He watched them for some time, and saw that they were using a ferret. When they saw the keeper one of them ran away, but’ the defendant was caught, and he, in the presence of a police-constable, told the keeper that if he summoned him he would ” punch his head.”

A witness for the defence attempted to prove that this was a case of mistaken identity, but the Bench had no doubt about the matter, and inflicted a fine of 20s. and costs, with the option of a month’s imprisonment.
