Gaming At Denaby.

Thomas Walker, Thomas Minchin, William Dodd and William Birkin were summoned for having played at a game of chance with cards on the highway at Denaby on 21 May.

Defendants pleaded guilty.

Police constable Midgeley stated that on the day named, about 12.30 midday, he was sent for from his station. On going up Denaby lane he saw the defendants playing at “nap.” He watched them for some time and saw money pass between them. On seeing him (Midgeley) Walker made a “grab ” at the money that was on the ground.

Defendants were each fined 5s. and costs, or ten days in default.
