Gaming with Dice
Nathan Perry, miner, Conisboro’, and John Hepworth, miner, New Conisboro’, were accused of having gamed with dice at Conisboro’ on the 15th May.
Police-sergeant Horton stated that on the date named at 6-5 p.m., he was on duty on the Cliff at Conisboro’ when he saw the defendants and four or five others knelt on the footpath in a ring. They had a piece of oilcloth on to which they were throwing the dice, after shaking them in a half-pint pot. Witness went towards them, and caught the two defendants. He also picked up two of the dice, the oilcloth, and 11d.
Defendants, who did not appear, were each fined 5s. and the costs.
